Jim Fisher's Genealogy and Family History Pages

My Family Tree
Contents

This page leads into the detail of my family tree. It is basically split into two parts, one being my own (FISHER) family tree and the other my wife's (SHAW). The third section below shows all the surnames we have found in our direct ancestry, in alphabetical order and with an indication of the geographical location(s). In some cases there is also a separate web page for the family of the surname concerned which gives more information on siblings, spouses and other family details, sometimes with photos of people or connected buildings, and in those cases the page is linked directly (just click on the name). Finally there is a link to a little page of "blockages" with which we would appreciate any help you may be able to give.

My family tree (direct ancestors only) is shown as an ahnentafel on this separate page. The page contains an explanation of how an ahnentafel works (it is a numbering system that shows relationships). The chart shows basic data about each person, to the best of my current knowledge. Sources vary wildly in reliability, so you should contact me for details before making any use of the information.

The table below shows all the surnames in my and my wife's direct ancestry to the best of our current knowledge (at the time of writing). The county name abbreviations are the standard Chapman codes used for British counties. You can find a full explanation, with the accompanying full names and a map showing their locations, on my page of explanation of the UK systems of local government and other area names. More information about some of the families can be seen by clicking on the name where a link is indicated, and more information (varying enormously in the amount of detail) about the places can also be found by clicking on the abbreviated name. In three cases (BRIDGES of South Marston area, Wilts, GLAZZARD (and variants) worldwide and RIPPINGALE (and variants) worldwide there is a Yahoo group to enable researchers into those families to communicate easily with one another - see the individual surname pages for details on how to join.
You should be aware that numerous variations exist of many names, and these are of no real significance. Spellings were not standardised until relatively recently, people often writing down what they thought they heard on various records. An extreme case is included below, where the name GERRARD was transformed through various intermediate forms (sometimes applying to the same individual) to CHERRETT!
The list below is that of my and my wife's direct ancestors. Many other surnames can be found on my family history pages, some in transcriptions of census records, parish registers, etc. and others in the various surname interest pages (i.e. other people's ancestors) associated with the eight towns and villages for which I have set up separate pages.
In addition to the above names, the ancestors of Jasper (ap) Gruffydd of Guilsfield, Montgomeryshire and John Roberts of Park, Llanfrothen, Merioneth used the Welsh naming system, which does not use family surnames and so cannot be presented in the above table.

As with any family history researcher, I have run into a number of "brick walls" in my research. This linked page outlines a few of them in the hope someone may read it and be able to help.
