Contents

When doing FH research you find that the further back you go the more difficult it is to read original documents, the less information there is recorded on them, the more difficult it is to find the documents and the fewer documents were created anyway. Your research is complete when you get back so far that no documents were created, if they were you would be unable to find them, if you found them they would contain no information and if they did have any information it would be illegible.

Introduction

This little page is merely an introduction and portal to a large set of pages dealing with family history. Although this page is a complete redesign, some of the other pages within this section of my web site have, like the site itself, been in existence for many years. the following sections of this page, I think, speak for themselves in showing how the material is organised. If you find any errors or broken links in these pages, if you have any queries regarding the material included (such as requests for my sources, which are in most cases not included on this web site and are of variable quality), or if you can help expand on any of it, please contact me.

My Family Tree

This section gives an outline of my family tree in the form of an ahnentafel (that term is explained on the page itself), a similar presentation of my wife's family tree, and alphabetical list of all the surnames in both those trees, separate pages with details of some of the familes concerned and a little page of blockages with which I would particularly appreciate help. All these pages are directly linked from my main family tree page.

My Family History Places

Probably the largest section of my family history pages, this consists of a number of pages for each of the counties in which I have family history interests, plus more detailed sets of pages for some particular towns and villages. Each of the latter offers a surnames interest page for other researchers to display their interests in (or occasionally near) the town or village concerned. These county, town and village pages include many photos, summaries of such things as the history and geography of each place, links to genealogical (and sometimes other) information, transcriptions of original records, etc. The places are all linked directly from my main family history places page.

Research Tips & Links

This section consists of tips on carrying out genealogy and family history research in general, some regardless of geographical location and some specific to UK. It is aimed mainly at beginners to internet genealogy, but parts could be of interest to the more experienced. Of particular interest to researchers into UK families who are based abroad is likely to be my description of the system of counties, parishes, hundreds, wapentakes and other local government units in UK, past and present
